Abstract:
This study examines Spanish teachers’ self-perceived digital competence during the transition from primary to secondary education. Analysis of responses from 3,828 teachers found that the relationship between gender and competence varied by teaching level. Male primary teachers reported higher competence than female primary teachers, while the gender gap was smaller in secondary education. Female secondary teachers also reported higher competence than female primary teachers; no comparable difference appeared among men. Gender differences favoring men were found across all six digital competence areas. The findings point to a need for targeted professional development, especially for female primary teachers, to help support students’ transitions between educational stages.
