Abstract:
This qualitative study interviews eight academics working within an in-house online program manager (OPM) at a public university to examine experiences of "temporal governance." Participants reported confusion, disorientation, and high stress driven by accelerated timelines and diminished autonomy under the OPM's time structures. The authors argue that as OPM work practices spread across universities, academic autonomy will be further eroded through embedded OPM temporal orderings, exemplifying academic capitalism’s impact on academic labor.
