Abstract:
Diary study of 187 employees (2,933 entries) over ten workdays comparing office vs. remote days. Remote days increased daily autonomy satisfaction but decreased relatedness satisfaction and produced more stable energy across the day. Autonomy satisfaction reduced energy decline and, with competence satisfaction, attenuated afternoon drops; autonomy mediated higher afternoon/evening energy on remote days. Autonomy frustration increased energy depletion; need frustration was otherwise unrelated to work location. Highlights autonomy’s key role in hybrid work well-being.
