Abstract:
This article revisits the central role of intercultural education in Italian schools in light of the Nuove Indicazioni 2025 for early childhood and first-cycle education. Through a critical analysis of ministerial and normative documents, it shows how interculture has historically been a cornerstone of democratic schooling in Italy, but argues that this principle appears weakened in the new guidelines, which risk shifting away from a heterocentric perspective. This first part focuses on policy frameworks and implications for learning, while a second part will address curricular developments and long‑term prospects, ultimately reaffirming interculture as an essential guiding principle for educational practice.
