Abstract:
This paper argues that media façades and urban screens should be understood not only as human-centred interfaces but also as materially active elements that reshape urban space. Using “cinematic placemaking” and a framework of material performativity, it analyses the projects “Human Beeing” (2014) and “The Spectre of People” (2015) from the Helsinki Media Façade Festival to show how cinema’s material presence participates in transforming the city beyond anthropocentric perspectives, advancing a posthumanist view of urban cinema.
