Abstract:
This systematic review of 73 studies shows how digital platforms reconfigure Islamic religious authority across multiple regions, revealing how algorithms, affect, and texts enable new hybrid figures (celebrity imams, cyber-muftis, female ulama activists) and “digital Islamic authority” built through technological mediation, visibility, and participatory engagement, with implications for authenticity, gender inclusion, and commercialization.
