Abstract:
This chapter examines how K–12 students collaborate in networked learning environments, focusing on an online camp using Minecraft Education Edition (M:EE). Framed by shifts toward digitally mediated, collaborative learning after COVID-19, it links networked learning to globally relevant competencies, especially collaboration as a foundation for learning “with and from others” in physical and virtual spaces. Using the first, exploratory phase of a Design-Based Research (DBR) study, the authors investigate what collaboration skills and strategies different groups of students bring into a one‑week online camp. Understanding these existing practices is presented as essential for designing appropriate scaffolding to support collaboration when M:EE and similar platforms are used in formal classroom settings
