Abstract:
This article argues that university students’ own speculative fiction writing is a valuable but underexplored lens for imagining futures of educational technology and understanding speculative pedagogies. Drawing on a case study of an assessment task about the future of lifelong learning and the practice of heritage thinking, it analyses how technology is portrayed in students’ narratives, showing that combining heritage thinking with speculative fiction can disrupt dominant, closed, and static visions of digital futures in education.
