Abstract:
The article examines how touch-focused audio recordings can evoke forms of “non-physical” touch and connection. During the outdoor sensory performance Until We Meet in a public park, 22 participants followed guided audio prompts centred on touch. Thematic analysis of feedback and creative responses showed that participants experienced self-touch, imagined touch and emotional touch, which increased body awareness and fostered feelings of social connection despite physical separation. The study suggests that touch-focused audio can be a low-barrier tool to support sensory well-being, especially for people with limited access to physical touch, and calls for more accessible, co-created recordings tailored to specific groups.
