Abstract:
The paper examines an emerging community of artists, designers, researchers, and activists who use community‑centred, co‑creative practices to rethink and remake AI technologies. Through expert interviews, it explores how they translate critical scholarship into practice, how creative methods let them operate beyond industry constraints, and how they function as a decentralised “knotwork” rather than a formal field. The study argues that their work at the intersection of art, design, and digital technologies generates alternative ways of imagining and building technology that can mitigate AI’s social harms and support more inclusive technological futures
