Abstract:
This study examines how prospective K–12 math teachers use dynamic data tools (CODAP) to perform "data moves"—transnumerative actions to process, organize, and visualize multivariate data. The authors extend a framework characterizing data moves with CODAP-specific examples and analyze 30 student screencasts using U.S. state-level education data. Four illustrative cases show how PMTs employ data moves to create and interpret visualizations and statistical measures to make sense of the data.
