Abstract:
The integration of digital pedagogy in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) has become crucial due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the successful implementation of technology in ECCE settings remains complex, especially in developing regions. The study aims to identify key barriers faced by ECCE educators in implementing digital pedagogy, explore pedagogical, institutional, and
infrastructural challenges, and recommend strategies for effective digital pedagogy implementation. The study uses a qualitative approach supported by field survey to investigate socio-cultural issues in ECCE teachers and administrators in West Bengal, using open-ended questionnaire, observations, and document review. Thematic analysis of data has been done by using coding, categorization into themes and triangulation. The present study reveals different
challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, lack of access to age-appropriate digital resources, insufficient teacher training, limited institutional and policy support, and concerns over screen-based learning-developmental appropriateness. The research concludes that effective digital integration in ECCE requires teacher training, policy clarity, parental engagement, and resource provisioning. It emphasizes son the importance of context-sensitive, developmentally informed strategies to ensure digital pedagogy which can enhance play-based, child-cantered learning.
