Abstract:
This edited volume examines Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) at the intersection of policy, theory, and pedagogy. It has two main aims: to analyse national and international policy frameworks shaping ECCE, and to explore diverse perspectives on child development and learning. Emphasising pedagogy, the book focuses on how teachers, caregivers, and communities can create meaningful learning environments that respect children’s agency while fostering creativity, curiosity, and holistic development. Contributions from scholars, practitioners, and policymakers address themes such as equity and access, curriculum design, play-based learning, teacher preparation, inclusive education, and the role of families and communities. Collectively, the chapters highlight the importance of collaboration to ensure that ECCE not only prepares children for formal schooling but also nurtures them as lifelong learners and responsible citizens.
