Join the Munich Conference on IP, Competition and Innovation, co-organised by the European University Institute and the Max‑Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition. The conference examines the complex relationship between intellectual property rights and competition policy in the context of innovation, noting broad agreement that both aim to enhance consumer welfare and foster innovation while highlighting practical tensions over incentives, appropriability and diffusion. It will address how technological and societal shifts—such as cumulative, data-driven R&D and platform ecosystems—change the strategic use of IP, and how divergent jurisdictional approaches to IP under competition law can create geopolitical frictions. The organisers invite unpublished papers from lawyers and economists on cross-cutting and sector-specific IP and competition issues; selected contributions will be discussed in depth over two days with a focus on their societal impact.
