Artificial Intelligence has the potential to improve efficiency and accuracy in workflows, and the Home Office has piloted its use in assessing asylum claims. There is also increasing concern about the use and misuse of AI – particularly large language models – in case preparation and the courts and its use in age assessments of young asylum seekers. This session asks: What role can or should AI have in the processing and assessment of asylum claims? Panellists: - Dr Derya Ozkul, University of Warwick - Dr Amina Memon, Royal Holloway University of London - Professor Thomas Gammeltoft-Hansen, Director of MOBILE the Center for Global Mobility Law, University of Copenhagen The seminar will be followed by a drinks reception. This event is open to all and free to attend but booking is required. Please note: This is an in-person only event and a recording of it will be available on the RLI podcast a week afterwards. This seminar is part of the 16th International Refugee Law Seminar Series: The Future of Refugee Law organised by the Refugee Law Initiative. School of Advanced Study | University of London | Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU, UK
