The 2026 edition, the eighth in Italy, brings with it two important new developments: AnthroDay is coming to Rome, and the programme will unfold over three consecutive weeks, with one week of events dedicated to each city, from 19 February to 7 March. This year’s theme, “VIAVAI VAIVIA. Mobility, Residence, Confinements,” invites reflection on the multiple forms of moving and staying, on crossings and boundaries that shape contemporary lives: migration, inequalities, the right to housing, work, care, the environment, and urban transformations. Over the three weeks, more than 100 free events – including public talks, workshops, exhibitions, ethnographic walks, film screenings, activities for schools, and convivial moments – will enliven Milan, Turin and Rome, turning them into a large laboratory of public anthropology. The opening conference, scheduled for Thursday 19 February at the University of Milano-Bicocca and open to the general public, will share the same title as the edition and will officially inaugurate the three weeks of activities. The presentations and discussion will address key issues such as urban transformations and major events (including, for example, the Milano-Cortina Olympics, a highly topical issue), digital platforms and labour, forms of precarious housing and forced mobility, and the role of narratives in asylum procedures.
