The UCD School of Education is seeking to appoint an Ad Astra Assistant Professor with expertise in AI-Driven Educational Innovation. This role invites early career academics who can significantly advance the development of this critical area within the school and broader university through both research and teaching excellence. This position represents a transformative opportunity to explore the intersection of artificial intelligence, immersive technologies and education, contributing to UCD’s mission of fostering secure, inclusive, and future-oriented learning environments. The role aligns with UCD’s Breaking Boundaries strategy, emphasising Transforming Learning, Learning for Life and Research with Ambition. The appointed Fellow will also collaborate closely with the UCD Centre for Cyber Resilience Education, amplifying the impact of their work across multiple domains. This Ad Astra appointment will strengthen UCD's leadership in AI, digital innovation, and research-led education, addressing key interdisciplinary challenges such as: Pioneering AI-Driven Learning: Designing cutting-edge, human-centred educational experiences powered by Generative AI, emphasising creativity, personalisation, and collaborative learning. Advancing Ethics and Equity in AI: Developing frameworks that promote ethical AI use and digital inclusivity, ensuring fairness for underrepresented and marginalised groups. Integrating AI with Immersive Extended Reality (IXR): Exploring the transformative potential of Generative AI and IXR to create dynamic, interdisciplinary learning environments that encourage critical thinking and active engagement. Fostering AI Literacy Across Lifetimes: Equipping learners of all ages with the knowledge and skills to navigate and apply AI responsibly in diverse contexts. Influencing Educational Technology Policy: Shaping evidence-based policies to support the ethical, secure, and innovative application of AI and IXR in education, ensuring their broad and equitable impact.
