Abstract:
As globalization has reshaped the technological landscape of societies and how cultures interact, the development of Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) through online environment has attained paramount prominence in the teaching and learning of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). This study investigates the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the development of ICC. Particularly, it aims at investigating the effectiveness of AI-powered chatbots, often referred to as “conversational AI”, in cultivating EFL learners’ ICC. To get satisfactory data, a true experimental design was conducted on a sample of 50 EFL second-year students at Tebessa University (Algeria). The results revealed that AI chatbots are efficacious tools in enhancing Algerian EFL learners’ ICC.
